Tutorial.

Sat May 15, 2010, 5:22 AM

Okay, here it is! My Video Tutorial. It's not too long, around 30 minutes of time lapse with me chatting / trying to give advice / effing rambling! Hopefully I don't sound like too much of an idiot >_> The time lapse is of the painting that I continued to work on (through livestream). It's in HD so the quality is quite nice. The tutorial doesn't go through to the end of the painting. It just covers the way I paint, if you want to watch more of it, the rest of the painting is available to watch on demand through my Livestream channel. I'm not sure how helpful my attempt at a tutorial is, but hopefully it'll answer some of the questions I get! :)

p.s. I'm sorry I called you a dick Camtasia! I MEANT Cam Studio >___>

Any more questions? Formspring me !

Thanks for watching my LS too guys, I'll be doing more in the future.

BRUSH!img192.imageshack.us/i/brushu.… To the people who still ask how to install this - READ BELOW!
Here's the brush I used for the painting (all of it). For anyone that wants it. Open it in PS, Edit > define brush preset. Go in to brush settings > other dynamics and enable both the opacity and flow jitter to pen pressure. Spacing 10%.
That's it!

COLOUR PALETTE: You can download the colour wheel from here: cghub.com/scripts/view/74/
As for the rest of the colours in there, if you really want them you can lift them from a screen grab here: img260.yfrog.com/i/swatches.jp…

I just watched your video tutorial for the first time! I think I almost felt my heart explode! It was really great to watch you paint and the ramblings honestly added to it! Also...the brush you used, I'd want to try it, but the link gives me a JPG of an owl instead.....

I seem to have deleted it, but it's still in my brushes in photoshop, so I got it from there. I hope it works.

so you said that you paint on top of your sketch, right? I've never tried that method before, so I'm a little confused. Do you paint a lineart and take away the sketch at the end? Because I never saw you paint a lineart in the video but it looked so clean! :D

I LOVE THIS! I'm a traditional artist, and I just started to take Digital Art/Drawing a try. This tutorial actually helped out with some of the questions in my head like, "Do I need to put in that many layers, for each highlight?" and "Must I use a specific brush?". You made Digital easier for me. :) I always use photoshop to edit photos, lighting's, contrasts, and a little fun like distorting hehehe  But I always tried combining my drawings with photoshop, but it never worked out. Not until recently, I wanted to expand my drawings a little more, and the only way for me to do that was to try Digital Drawing. Your video tutorial was very helpful, with the extra help of your accent, I pay attention, much more better when someone has an accent. :D

I'll answer for her just because I'd hate for your question to go unanswered.
You can make any image into a "brush."
You open the image in Photoshop and go to the top bar where it says File Edit Image ...etcetera. Click on Edit and go down to the bottom of the drop-down menu where it says Define Brush Presets (I believe.) There you can choose to save that image as a brush and it will be added to your brush pallet. Click on the brush and hit F5 to bring up your Brush window so you can adjust the flow and opacity jitter (setting it to Pen Pressure) and adjusting the Spacing of the brush to 10% as she suggested.) You can do that with any kind of an image. You could scan a quarter and set it to black and white and turn that into a brush if you wanted to. You might enjoy experimenting with different images and patterns you create yourself. :3

Umm, I have a little problem with setting up the brush and would really appreciate a helping hand. Whenever I set "flow jitter" to "pen pressure" and try to paint, it turns the control off. I can't lock it either, it just switches itself off after me trying to choose the flow jitter control method.

I'm using Photoshop CS5 - any ideas?

Hello Charlie...Your Video Tut was wonderful. I'm really glad you didn't add annoying loud music in the background!!! Out of curiosity Did you use a Tablet or a Cintiq? I ask because your stokes seem so perfectly laid...Unless I missed them because of the speed of the video I very rarely see you undo and repaint your stokes.

You are amazing at what you do!!!:D
